What's a news reader? ![]()
This small icon is usually used to identify RSS news feeds. However, if you click one of these links, you will most likely get a page full of code in your browser. To properly read the news feed, you need an RSS news reader - a piece of software that checks the feeds and lets you read any new items that have been added. Headlines of the news items are displayed, usually with a brief summary included. The headline then links to the full article on our website.
News readers allow you to add the web address of the news feeds you are interested in. Once this is added, the news reader will display the information. From then on, as soon as we add news items to our website, your news reader will automatically update the links viewed on your page.
There are a number of free or low-cost online, desktop, mobile and Outlook-based news readers available. With web-based readers such as NewsGator, you set up a log-in account and can then access your RSS feed subscriptions from any computer, whereas downloadable applications such as NewzCrawler will be launched from your personal computer. Some readers such as Attensa integrate with Microsoft Outlook and the Mozilla Firefox browser has a built-in RSS news reader.
